Rifaximin 550 mg is an oral, gut-selective antibiotic used to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) and prevent hepatic encephalopathy (HE) recurrence in adults. Common dosages are 550 mg three times daily (IBS-D) or 550 mg twice daily (HE). It works by inhibiting bacterial RNA synthesis, often causing side effects like nausea or dizziness.
